Liquor Licensing Services

Do you fall into one of the following categories?

If so, you need to ensure that you are correctly licensed under the Licensing Act 2003 (click any link on the left for further information):

Club Premises Certificates

Club Premises Certificates enable qualifying clubs to use their premises for qualifying club activities. If you use your club for private functions you may need a Premises Licence for that part of your club or you must use the Temporary Event Notice procedure, which only permits 12 events per year.

Designated Premises Supervisor

If your business involves the sale and/or supply of alcohol, you are required to name a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) on your Premises Licence. You can not supply alcohol without a named DPS. The individual needs to be the person responsible for the supply of alcohol under the Premises Licence and is required to also hold a Personal Licence. You are only able to name one DPS per Premises Licence.

If your DPS leaves you must replace them and notify the Local Authority before you can re-open.

Personal Licence

Personal Licences enable individuals to supply and authorise the supply of alcohol on licensed premises (i.e. all premises holding a Premises Licence). All premises wanting to sell alcohol must have at least one Personal Licence holder in order to operate.

Premises Licence

Premises Licences are required for all premises where one or more licensable activities are being provided. If you sell and/or supply alcohol, provide a regulated entertainment or supply late night refreshment then you need a Premises Licence in order to operate.

Temporary Event Notice

There is a limit on the number of Temporary Event Notices that any one person or premises can have in any 12 month period as follows:

  • 12 temporary events for each premises
  • No premises can be granted more than 15 days’ use under a Temporary Event Notice
  • 5 Temporary Event Notices only, will be granted for non-personal licence holders
  • 50 Temporary Event Notices will be granted for Personal Licence holders

If you currently hold in excess of 12 occasional events per year at your unlicensed premises, you should consider applying for a Premises Licence and/or a Personal Licence.
